Dubai:  Theme parks are investing in new technologies to bring customer experience to another level, and the latest to be introduced to consumers in the UAE is a cinema that is best experienced wearing a swimsuit.

Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi has confirmed that the new five-dimensional (5D) theatre that will be opening this summer will be the first of its kind in the region: it will immerse viewers in water.

The 36-seat theatre will also feature special effects like rain, waterfalls, wind and fog, letting viewers be part of the show they’re watching.

“A total of 45 to 50 centimetres [over one foot] of water will flood the theatre,” Yas Waterworld said in a statement.

Its special seats will obviously move and vibrate, and the audience will be treated to other forms of sensory stimulation and effects, including leg ticklers, neck blasts and water explosions, sprays and fountains

Launching in June 2018, the waterpark’s Cinesplash is also unlike any standard cinema that features blockbuster movies.

It will play a short film called “The Legend of the Lost Pearl.”

It is inspired by the UAE’s pearl diving past and will take the audience on a 5D interactive journey through the adventures of Dana and her friends in their quest to find the Mother Pearl.

The duration of the experience will be 12 minutes and the theatre will be playing four shows per hour. Waterpark visitors who wish to give this new offering a try will only need to pay Dh30 at the entrance.

Yas Waterworld has yet to release images of its new theatre but according to Aventics, five-dimensional cinemas have already been established in other markets.

Four similar theatres (below) were earlier planned in different locations in China by Wanda Group, a cinema chain operator that also owns luxury hotels, according to Cineplash5D.

Miral had unveiled the latest addition to Yas Waterworld’s attractions during the Arabian Travel Market exhibition. The new offering complements Miral’s portfolio of tourism destinations, which includes Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and the soon-to-open Warner Bros. World.
