Dubai: Dubai-based telecom operator du is set to roll out 5G services this year after putting on air the first site at its headquarters in Dubai Media City by achieving a download throughput of 1.5Gbps.

Preparations of 5G deployment is currently underway in major clusters like Expo 2020, Burj Khalifa Downtown and Yas Island, among others.

The operator said that virtual reality and augmented reality will be one of the main apps of the 5G era.

Globally, AR/VR has a huge growth potential with a market value expected to be approximately $110 billion (Dh404 billion) by 2025.

5G will accomplish super high speeds, low latency communication and massive machine-to-machine type communication in the UAE.
