Dubai: UAE residents and tourists who love the sparkle of gold or other precious stones may have reason to rejoice this month.

At least 65 retailers in Dubai are giving away massive discounts on jewellery purchases for one whole month, it has been confirmed.

In a move to further boost consumer spending, the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) launched for the first time this week a month-long promotion called “My Jewellery Season,” which promises customers some significant savings when shopping for a new piece of ornament.

As part of the campaign, buyers can avail themselves of discounts up to 70 per cent or free gifts on a minimum spend from June 8 to July 8, 2018 at various jewellery counters across Dubai.

The discounts, which can mean savings of over Dh1,000 to Dh4,000, apply to select jewellery items, including gold and diamond pieces, and can vary from one store to another.

Additional freebies, such as a ring worth Dh1,900 or a gram of gold coin are also being given away to big spenders.

At Al Liali Jewellery, buyers can enjoy between 25 per cent and 70 per cent discount on select pieces, and those who spend at least Dh10,000 on any Tessitore jewellery, will get to bring home a ring worth Dh1,900.

Consumers splurge billions of dirhams on gold, diamonds, gemstones and other jewellery pieces in a year. In 2015 alone, jewellery sales in the UAE amounted to more than $2.1 billion (Dh7.7 billion), according to a report from Dubai Chamber.

Among those who have confirmed to offer discounts are Jawhara Jewellery, Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Kalyan Jewellers, Sky Jewellery, La Marquise, Al Liali Jewellery, Lifestyle Fine Jewellery, Popley Kewalram Jewellers, Al Zain Jewellers and Annaka.

“We are confident that this promotion will give a timely boost to the jewellery sector, one of the pillars of Dubai’s economy,” said Tawhid Abdullah, chairman of DGJG.

The jewellery group has tied up with the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing to launch the campaign.
