Dubai: Airline passengers passing through airports in Dubai can score some huge discounts when buying duty-free goods this month.

From August 19 to August 20, Dubai Duty Free will be rolling out a special sale and giving away a 20 per cent discount on a wide range of merchandise, including perfumes, jewellery, cosmetics and handbags.

The two-day sale is in celebration of Eid Al Adha, the airport retailer confirmed on Tuesday.

“This is a very special time of the year with families travelling as a result of the upcoming Eid Al Adha and we thought this was a good way of joining in the celebrations with them so that our customers can start their holiday break on a high note with great savings,” said Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free.

The discounts can be availed of at Dubai Duty Free outlets in all terminals and concourses in Dubai International and Maktoum International Airports.

All passengers, whether departing, arriving or transiting, can enjoy the price reductions.

The airport retailer recorded Dh1.91 billion in sales for the first three months of 2018. The month of March alone saw transactions amounting to more than Dh660 million, up 10 per cent over a year earlier.

The most popular items among travellers are beverages, perfumes and tobacco. Perfume sales alone amounted to Dh276 million, while the sale of tobacco products reached Dh220 million.
