Dubai: For six weeks starting this Saturday, bargain hunters in the UAE can enjoy big discounts at thousands of retail outlets in Dubai as the annual summer shopping frenzy kicks off.

The latest edition of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) will officially start on July 1 and organisers have promised mall shoppers up to 75 per cent off when they shop for shoes, bags, clothes, accessories and other items throughout the retail event.

And while retailers are expected to slash their prices during the entire DSS period, much bigger discounts await those who shop on specific days.

Those who are willing to brave the Friday crowd between July 7, 2017 and August 11, 2017, for example, are in for eye-popping deals. The “Friday Surprise” promotion promises to offer “steep discounts” only each Friday at a “specific retail location,” so shoppers are encouraged to keep an eye out for future announcements from DSS organisers.

Aside from the “Friday Surprise,” there will be a 72-hour sale during DSS, and this time shoppers can avail themselves of even bigger exclusive savings on already-discounted retail items if they head to the shops from Monday to Wednesday each week.

DSS has become an important annual retail event in Dubai. While there have been a series of sales events happening around town recently, this year’s DSS is shaping up to be one of the biggest.

Organised by the Dubai  Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), the regular fixture in Dubai’s retail calendar will run from July 1 to August 12, 2017.  Throughout the period, retailers are expected to cut their prices by as much as 75 per cent.

“Thousands of retail outlets will reward visitors with special offers and discounts of up to 75 per cent,” the organisers of DSS said in a statement.

Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi had recently opened its doors for 24 hours where shoppers enjoyed up to 90 per cent discounts. Last March, the Big Clearance Sale at Dubai World Trade Centre attracted thousands of bargain hunters.
