Dubai: The world’s best in the creative design of news — be it on newspapers or digital platforms — will offer a clue on what’s ticking at an industry summit, the Middle East Creative Design and Dubai Infographic Fest, which will be held from October 23 to 25 at the Knowledge Village in Dubai.

It will be organised by the Society for News Design with support from the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.

The ‘National Geographic Magazine’s’ infographic artist Fernando Baptista will be the keynote speaker at the conference. One of the most talented infographic artists and with worldwide recognition, his artistic obsession can be seen in his illustration and infographics for the magazine.

“The conference will bring together leading media professionals in the region and internationally-recognised speakers to share their experiences and to showcase the best practices in design through innovation, creativity and efficiency in producing content across print and digital platforms,” said Lee Stelle, president of the Society for News Design.

“The visual aspect of a product is crucial in adding value to its content, as good design attracts new readers and maintain readership loyalty.”

The conference will also discuss trends and innovations across different platforms such as print, online and — now — UX design.
Parallel to the conference, a two-day workshop on infographics and Arabic language layouts will be held, where designers will learn techniques to create more dynamic and creative pages in the Arabic language. It is to be presented by Osama Al Jawish, an award-winning designer at the ‘Al Shabiba’ and ‘Times of Oman’ newspapers.

Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority said: “We are pleased to be part of a festival that encourages artistic creativity that brings the local and international community together. At Dubai Culture, we are committed to providing and supporting platforms for aspiring and professional artists, allowing them to highlight their innovative approaches that have the potential to redefine the creative industry. With the media and design evolving tremendously, especially in today’s digital world, hosting this event in Dubai will also contribute to enriching the talents of young professionals and inspire them to push the boundaries.”
