Size matters even more with new Infiniti QX80

The first major reveal of the new QX80 happened in Dubai, with Infiniti trotting out its contender in the heavyweight SUV category. The model puts up 400 hp through its 5.6 litre V8. Clearly not one to give way.

Range Rover opens the possibilities

There are no limits on the possibilities a Range Rover owner can do wthin its confines. If that's not enough, the manufacturer has raised the stakes further with the SVAutobiography Dynamic. Sure, the power output derived from its 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol engine can be raised to 565 hp. There are corresponding chassis calibrations that will "make the most of this increase". To take in these changes, immerse yourself in the new "Executive Class" seat.

Time to turn a new Leaf

Electric is buzzing through the halls of the Dubai International Motor Show... and Nissan's Leaf is plugging in. Billed as the "world’s best-selling electric car", with nearly 300,000 on the road, the second generation comes with a longer range and a more flowing design. Among the additional features are an "e-Pedal" technology that allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop, by increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator, bringing the car to a complete stop. The car holds its position, even on steep slopes, until the accelerator is applied again.

The cub Jaguar SUV is out

The Jaguar E-Pace got itself an airing in Dubai, as the UK carmaker reinforces its intent on building up SUV sales further after the strong response to the F-Pace. To be built at an Austrian plant, the E-Pace will have a formal launch some time next year. 

The Phantom unveiled

The Phantom has been unveiled. The all-luxury Rolls-Royce model, into its eighth generation, made its regional public debut. It is built on an entirely aluminium frame, making it much lighter on the heels than the previous generations. And on the inside, The Gallery is a "reinterpretation" of what a dashboard and instrument panel area should look like. It features an industry first in have a single piece of toughened glass running the full width of the instrument panel. It has thus created an area for bespoke works of art and thus the personalisation potential for an owner.

All decked up in titanium

One niche Italian carmaker has already made the titanium cut. Icona made its regional debut showing off Vulcano Titanium, which draws on inspiration from the world's fastest aircraft, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.

The handmade car uses quite a bit of titanium, and which requires more than 10,000 hours of manual hammer work.

"The Vulcano Titanium brings extreme aeronautical criteria to the supercar world, and it can really be defined as a street-legal fighter jet," said Samuel Chuffart, Icona's Global Design Director.

The Lincoln's turning presidential with its Navigator

Lincoln Navigator's going all "presidential". Not surprising for a model  that's often an integral part of the motorcades of heads of state and celebrities.

In fact, the whole of the Lincoln stand at Dubai International Motor Show features models with the presidential imprint.

The Navigator version has a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre engine and a 10-speed transmission. The engine can throw quite a handy 450 hp.

The small is winning over new converts for Merc

Small and the curvaceous are doing just fine at Mercedes-Benz’s operations in the Middle East. Even with the prevailing weak consumer sentiments, Merc is winning over a new-generation of owners, and especially among the young – needless to say – upwardly mobile.

Models such as the A-Class, the GLA and GLC are central to this strategy of lowering the median age of a typical Merc owner in these markets. It is a playbook the parent company Daimler has been fine-tuning for the better part of two years and more, and instrumental in the brand winning back the title of the highest selling premium carmaker in the world.

The new Corvette ZR-1 just got a lot speedier

Think the last Corvette ZR-1 was fast? Then you haven't seen the new iteration. The 2019 edition - launched in Dubai - now owns the "distinction" of being the fastest production Corvette to date, with a top speed of 337 km/h.

The Corvette ZR1’s comes with an exclusive LT5 supercharged engine, kicking up 755 horsepower and torque of 969 Nm). That's serious performance in anyone's book.

“I’ve never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there’s never been one like this before,” said Mark Reuss, Chevrolet's Executive Vice-President, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain.

The two-seater super sports car has put on board the latest — and most efficient — Formula 1 hybrid technology. And when Mercedes says they are intent on delivering the racetrack on to the roads, better believe them. The model can touch over 1,000 hp and top speeds of 350 km/h.

Just sit back and enjoy the traffic in the new A8

The new Audi A8

Let the A8 ease your way through traffic snarls. On highways and multi-lane roads with a physical barrier separating the traffic directions, the A8 can handle slow-moving traffic of up to 60 km/h.

The system handles starting from a stop, the accelerating, steering and braking in its lane.

If the driver has activated the traffic jam pilot at the AI button on the center console, they can take their foot off the accelerator and release the steering wheel.

This makes the latest version of the Audi flagship the "world’s first production" car to allow conditional automation in Level 3 status.
