Dubai: Budget carrier flydubai said on Wednesday it will resume flights to the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniyah from May 10, following an announcement from Iraqi authorities that the airport reopened in March 2018.

The resumption of flights will bring flydubai’s operations in Iraq to five destinations, including Baghdad, Basra, Arbil, and Najaf.

The airline is the first UAE-based one to operate direct flights to Sulaimaniyah, with a twice-a-week service. The frequency will increase to three times a week from June, flydubai said.
