Dubai: Emirates airline said it is eyeing the Mexican market to expand its passenger network in Latin America, and is interested in adding services there.

Thierry Antinori, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Emirates Airline, said on Wednesday the Dubai-based carrier is “looking at different options” with regards to flights to Mexico. His comments come just a few months after Emirates announced it plans to launch a service to Santiago in Chile via Sao Paulo.

“Mexico is an interesting market. We are flying there with the freighters. It’s the only country in the world with a population of a 100 million where Emirates is not flying, so it’s a market we should go [to], and we will go one day,” he told reporters, without providing details on when a lauch might be.

Antinori was speaking on Wednesday on the sidelines of a press conference to announce details on the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) taking place in Dubai next week. The chief commercial officer also welcomed the government’s move to launch policies to provide visas for transit passengers.

He said that Emirates will use the move to develop its stopover programme to passengers.

“Today, Emirates already has a stopover programme for some people stopping in Dubai … We will continue to look at developing this opportunity to show Dubai,” Antinori said.

“We are preparing further development of some of the product we have combining different things, so it’s a continuation and acceleration of what we have been doing in the past.”
