More than 300 people received free consultation at the Mobile Skin Clinic, which was launched to raise awareness about skin diseases. Dubai Health Authority (DHA) rolled out the clinic in line with the Year of Zayed initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, Galderma International and Emirates Dermatology Society.

The clinic will visit various locations across the UAE as part of the year-long campaign. The first stop was Dubai Academic City from February 20-22.

The mobile clinic gave students the opportunity to have a free skin consultation and diagnosis by renowned dermatologists. Plans are under way to take the skin clinic, which is equipped with the latest equipment, to other areas in Dubai to further increase awareness.

A healthier society

Dr Ahmad Bin Kalban, CEO of the Hospital Services Sector at DHA, stressed the importance of the mobile clinic.

He emphasised that DHA is keen on participating in the Year of Zayed by launching a number of initiatives in collaboration with its strategic partners to raise awareness about different diseases to create a healthier and happier society.

Dr Anwar Al Hammadi, President of the Emirates Dermatology Society and Consultant and Head of Dermatology at DHA, said that in order to ensure the success of the clinic the society provided experienced dermatologists specialised in different fields to provide free consultation, medication, diagnosis and create more awareness.

He added that the campaign would continue all year-long based on a set schedule in collaboration with targeted bodies.

“The event represents a strategic step in making our young generation better understand skin problems, which in turn will help early detection and timely treatment,” said Dr Hesham Abdallah, Galderma Head for the Middle East, Africa, Russia, India and Turkey.

“The key objective is for our target group to avoid such diseases, develop pride in their skin and leave their mark in their community.”

Excellent support

“Skin is the largest organ in the body and healthy skin is a reflection of our wellness,” said Tamer Habiba, Galderma’s prescription Business Unit Head for the Middle East. “We want to educate our younger generation about skin problems and help them understand better how to treat them at an early stage, in order to be happy and more confident in their own skin.

“We had excellent support from all the parties: Emirates Dermatology Society, DHA, and all the dermatologists who participated in the event — they deserve appreciation for taking time out to join us in this initiative.”

Big response

At Dubai Academic City, the clinic drew a big response. It also featured a competition for students with attractive prizes and distribution of goody bags.

The mobile clinic was also present at the 23rd Dubai International Pharmaceuticals and Technologies Conference and Exhibition held at Dubai World Trade Centre last week.
