Dubai: For those who miss Sri Lanka's retired legendary players Sanath Jayasuriya and Muttiah Muralitharan during the ongoing Pakistan-Sri Lanka series in the UAE, an opportunity to see them in action is being organised.

Jayasuriya and Muralitharan will play in the second edition of the Gulf Super Sixes tournament, along with India's stylish left-hander Vinod Kambli and legendary pacer Wasim Akram, who is also the brand ambassador of the event.

Jayasuriya, a hard-hitting opener for many years, is here as a commentator for the Pakistan-Sri Lanka series after retiring from the game. He was badly missed by the Lankan team that struggled with their batting, and Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan also attributed the team's poor show in the Test series to the retirements of players like Muralitharan.

The four players will play for one of the domestic teams that will reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. Forty-eight teams from the region are playing in the event, which will be held from December 2 to 16.

Speaking about the inclusion of the star players who have confirmed their participation, Arshad Zaheer, managing director of Crayon Communications, the organisers, said: "The inclusion of Jayasuriya and Muralitharan will attract a large number of sports lovers here who have grown up appreciating these two cricket heroes.

"Eight teams that reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, being held under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, will have an international cricketer play alongside them. They will serve as mentors and coaches of the teams. A full list of the other international cricketers will be announced in the next few weeks."
