Dubai: Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, made a promising beginning in his journey with India ‘A’ team in Colombo on Tuesday. Turning up against the Sri Lankan colts at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo, the left-arm paceman picked up his first wicket with the last ball of his second over when he caught batsman Kamil Mishara plumb in front.

Earlier, Sri Lankan skipper Nipun Dananjaya won the toss and elected to bat. India’s wicketkeeper-captain Anuj Rawat decided to open the bowling with Tendulkar and right-arm fast bowler Akash Pande.

After conceding a boundary from the fifth ball of his second over, Tendulkar struck. It was, however, his fellow bowlers Harsh Tyagi and Ayush Badoni who did the bulk of the damage, picking up four wickets each to bowl out the opposition for 244.

In reply, the Indian openers Rawat and Atharwa Taide stitched together 92 runs in the final session, with the captain smashing an entertaining 62 including eight fours and two sixes. Rawat’s dismissal in the 16th over led to the umpires calling an end to proceedings on Day 1, with the visitors still trailing by 152 runs.
