Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon’s quote on the organisations website talks about this years goal: “The people of the world have asked us to shine a light on a future of promise and opportunity. Member States have responded with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development... It is an agenda for people, to end poverty in all its forms. An agenda for the planet, our common home. An agenda for shared prosperity, peace and partnership.”

Irakuzwa Aime Patrick: “This year, as usually every year, on 21st September, Rwanda joins the world in celebrating the annual International Peace Day, It was brought into being by United Nations Resolutions in 1981 and 2001. Rwandans have gained a unique experience as far as peace development is concerned. Much as Rwandans have passed through many challenges including bad history based on bad governance and discrimination which later culminated into Genocide perpetrated against Tutsi, they have managed to make a tremendous development in the area of peace building process through building and promoting National unity and Social cohesion among its people.”

Jose Ani: “Pope Francis has asked for prayers for peace in a world in which war is everywhere. Speaking on Sunday morning after the Angelus prayer, the Pope said that on Tuesday he will travel to the Umbrian town of Assisi to participate in the Day of Prayer for Peace.”

Timothy Daniel: “We need peace in the world. Lack of peace is just is like touch of hell on the earth. I also remember the crises we suffered in Plateau because of ethno-religious lack of understanding. The consequences are so numerous to mentioned, I earnestly believe you are coming back fully strategize to impact knowledge to the populations of Nigerian on peace and mutual understanding.”

John Murray Doherty: “Peace is not the superior being. Peace is not being the superior beast. It is not about ending wars. It is about helping those with least, and repairing the old scars. Peace is not about being strong, or say you got to live my way. It’s being able to say I was wrong, and living in total harmony.”

Jacob Sabat: “Everything that is happening in the world today is our responsibility... each and every one of us, without exception. They who are willfully ignorant and shamelessly apathetic about what they are doing in the world today are complicit in their heinous crimes against humanity... They who are not giving their time, energy, talents and resources to the political process, to make sure that only the most loving and most wise individuals become our public servants, have blood on their hands and they can never ever dare speak of love, consciousness or awareness.”
