We are so busy in our day to day living that we barely find any time to count our blessings in life.

Among other things, independence is a blessing, that is what a national independence day reminds us. The day not only signifies freedom but also peace, love and harmony that our country saw after years of loot and plunder.

On Pakistan’s Independence Day, many people attend celebrations and parades. They dress up in green and white, which are the colours of Pakistan’s national flag. People meet each other and share happiness. People recollect and discuss the way Pakistan came into being.

Independence Day means to remember the sacrifices of our our forefathers. They streived towards making an independent country so that future citizens could enjoy peace. Pakistan’s founding father Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s words, as he declared Pakistan’s indepence, show the true meaning of the word:

“You are free; you are free to go to your temples; you are free to go to your mosques or any other place of worship in the state of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed – that has nothing to do with the business of the state.”

When on one hand Pakistan’s Independence Day is a day to remember our past, on the other hand it’s also a day where we could promise ourselves to make our country prosperous, spread peace wherever we go and wherever possible. In short, a reminder of thepast and a commitment to the future.
