Mother Earth is the one who does not discriminate between the different species on this planet, yet we, human beings, just one the millions of species on this planet, consider ourselves to be supreme. The existence of our planet is based upon co-existence with other species, but what have we done? We’ve established our dominion over all of them and exercised authority.

Recently, the US House of Representatives passed a bill allowing hunters to kill hibernating bears. What have those innocent creatures done to us? There might have been cases where they’ve attacked human beings and that is for the sole reason that we have stolen their homes.

Not only have some animals left their homes, some other species are completely extinct from planet Earth. What is of amusement is not just the sheer number of species, but also the pace at which this is happening. Though similar cases of extinctions have happened in the past, this is happening so quickly.

Let’s all once again not forget that the planet is not just for our existence, but for that of all the other species and our future generations. Just last month we celebrated Earth Day. For all of those who do not know the reason behind the creation of this day, it’s a grim story. An oil spill in 1969 in Santa Barbara, US, made a US Senator from Wisconsin realise that we are doing almost nothing for the planet whereas the Earth does everything for us.

We need to do more to save Mother Earth. These methods can be as simple as refusing a plastic bag when you buy milk or reusing the grocery bag that you had obtained earlier from the same store (instead of getting a new one). Segregation of waste is another way, in which we can separate all recyclables from those which we cannot. Let’s all stand together, united in this front, to conserve our planet from destruction. We owe it to all those with whom we share this planet.
