I am happy to know that the authorities were able to find the people responsible for feeding their cat to dogs. The law should apply to all, so that other people who consider doing something similar in the future will think twice. I own a veterinary clinic and work closely with animals. I see a lot of videos like the one that went viral, this isn’t the first. But, it was painful to see the cat fighting for its life. I’m surprised her heart didn’t just stop in such a stressful situation.
I do, however, think that people who have such aggression towards animals should see a therapist to understand their behaviour. Someone as dangerous as these men could easily harm more animals. To give them benefit of the doubt, the punishment could also help them change. In the video, you hear the man saying the cat had attacked a bird. But there are other ways to deal with this situation. He could have called an animal welfare group to help. At least the animal would have lived.
This makes me think that people need to know the right department to reach, in case they spot an animal being abused. Someone should be in charge of these situations. Similar to how the UAE now has a Minister of Happiness, there should be a minister for the welfare of animals. There are a lot of Emirati animal lovers, and I am one of them. It’s in my blood. If you come across an animal who appears to be stressed, in pain, injured or even abused, call an animal welfare group. These animals need to be put in a calm place, away from people. Some organic medicine can help them calm down, too. I personally use one for my dog, who is 13 years old, blind and deaf. There are many people like me, who are more than happy to speak with those seeking information, to assist them and help them take the correct steps to reach the authorities.
