A few things that are on a list of guidelines provided by the US Environmental

Protection Agency’s Urban and Economic Development Division to make a city more connected:

• Transit or public transport routes/stops every one kilometer.

• Minimum six-foot sidewalk for areas with light pedestrian traffic.

• Marked crossings every 100 feet on pedestrian streets.

• Comfortable and safe places to wait, such as benches.

• Closely spaced shade trees along routes, with trees placed at a spacing of 30 feet.

• Nearby parks and other public spaces.
