This reader saw children run into oncoming traffic, chasing their football.

Sharjah

There is an issue that I would like to bring to the attention of the authorities. A few days ago, when I was looking out of my window, in Sharjah’s Industrial Area 5, I saw a group of boys playing football on the footpath, near the main road.

One of the boys kicked the ball and it landed on the main road. Suddenly, his friend ran to get the ball. He didn’t notice a car approaching from the other side and just dashed onto the road. It was a matter of luck that the driver realised the situation and slammed the brakes. I was shocked!

Three other cars behind him also had to stop abruptly, creating unnecessary traffic congestion. Even after this incident took place, these boys continued to play. They kicked the football onto the road twice, but did not seem to care for their safety.

I was disappointed by this behaviour. Why are parents allowing their children to play so dangerously? I agree that there is a need for parks or recreational facilities in this area, but that does not mean children can be so reckless with their lives.
