I have been involved in the valuable contribution towards environmental sustainability and charity works for the needy since the age of seven. When 2017 was declared as the Year of Giving, I decided to participate in helping the more than six million people who desperately needed humanitarian assistance following droughts in Somalia.

My brother and I collected 100kg of clothes and donated them to Emirates Red Crescent (ERC). We used to visit our friends and neighbours, explained to them about the importance of donating clothes that they didn’t need anymore.

Though there are charity bins located at various places in the UAE for depositing clothes, it seems people hesitate to carry the bags to them. Visiting their homes helped us prevent these clothes from ending up in trash and instead reach people in need.

To continue this habit of giving, I managed to collect another 100kg of clothes and donated them to Sharjah Charity International earlier this month. I will continue collecting more clothes and have requested our friends and neighbours to inform us whenever they have some clothes that are not needed by them anymore.

In addition to them, I also donated a wheelchair so it reaches a person in real need of it. Last year, I had a fracture in my right leg and the doctor advised to use a wheelchair for a month. Thus, my parents had to buy one. But, I am fit now and the wheelchair is not required. I thought of donating it instead!

Involving myself in valuable contribution towards the betterment of society keeps me satisfied and encouraged in life. Through this report, I hope to encourage more people to think about those in need.
