Make use of advantages

It is noticed that most of the people are running away from time (“Facebook debate: Why is aging seen as a negative thing?”, Gulf News, January 14). Even though we have tremendous advantages on our hands, like technology, networking and social media, the end result looks discouraging. The perspective of time is associated with the words - busy and stress. In my personal life, I also came across all these excuses, but with a lot of effort and observations, I have somehow come out of this trap. Last few years I have become more active in my personal and professional life by effectively planning my days. Unlike before, I get more time for my family, professional life, hobbies and passions. All thanks to technology. Also, I have noticed that people younger than me panic so much. Personally, I don’t think about my age and never ask anyone else for theirs. This is because it doesn’t matter.

Enjoy each day

Yes, time is the thing which no one can stop. It goes by in seconds. Some people accept this while others do not. They have fear of age. No one wants to die early in this life, and everyone wants to be young forever. They want to fulfil their dreams. In this busy life, whenever they have time to think, they are only thinking about aging in a negative way. They say: ‘Oh, I still have to do this, that’, and more. I think we should accept aging and think of it in a positive manner. At every age, you have a different life and different dreams. I think we should enjoy every moment of life with positive thinking. If you think about aging negatively, it will destroy your present. Enjoy life no matter what. Every day is new day.

Don’t get caught up in it

We have no other choice but to embrace time. There is no way we can run away from it. Wherever we run, time will follow, or rather time is the measurement created by us in order to keep records. Yet happy times seem to end quickly while times of difficulty seem to last longer. Aging is again a physical process and something that none of us can avoid. The mind can remain forever young. The body might age, yet if the mind feels young, the person can feel much younger than his physical body age. That’s how the phrase ‘young at heart’ came to be.

Finally, time just passes and so does everything that we see. Change is the only thing that is constant, as time clicks away on the clock. Everything keeps changing. Aging is natural and we cannot fight it, neither can we fight time. It is all a part of existence and evolution. If we accept time and change, the journey of life passes smoothly. As long as we are young at heart, we can live life with a spring in our step and not be caught up with either age or time.

VAT’s up!

I know Value Added Tax is eventually good for the nation’s economy and it will be beneficial for all people through the developments it funds(“A Day in Babu’s Life with VAT”, Gulf News, January 12). All of it will filter down to the individual. But, sometimes, it is difficult to see the larger picture when you are swamped by the daily troubles and travails - the daily struggle of existence. It is good that zero rating is applied in some cases so that VAT application is a slow transition rather than a sudden jump.

But, I am feeling the presence of VAT in my daily transactions, from food to the prices of certain medicines. But, the quality of life already received in the UAE is so much better than most places in the world that it feels criminal to complain.

Social media perks

Facebook is a kind of media outlet and it is considered to be another alternative to letter writing, which was practiced in the absence of modern technology (“The man who’s pulling the plug on social media”, Gulf News, January 10). As we have progressed further, our requirements have also changed with time. No one has the time to write long letters and post them, not to mention wait for their replies. Facebook got the idea to make this fast and easy by using the internet. We have to communicate with others and there is no other way left in the modern world. If someone is not interested in a Facebook debate, they can simply isolate themselves from communicating. It is a better tool for us to show our feeling and not keep things in our hearts.
