Lifetime of repent
How is it that for a whole year, this person hadn’t had any conversations with his own mother (“Indian techie finds decomposing body of mother on return from US”, Gulf News, August 8)? This is so sad! I feel ashamed after reading this report. Is this what parents raise their children to be? Now, not just for a year, but he won’t be able to speak to his mum for his entire lifetime. He has lost the person who loved him, made food for him when he returned from school or called him funny names with love. He will miss everything and repent.
From Ms Nima Unr
Make an effort
The most important and beautiful relationship is one you have with your mother. When parents become old, they need to be cared for just like young children. Their emotions and needs are just like children. This mother died and so the negligence of her son is known to the world. What about so many parents who are left alone at homes or old people shelters? We make hundreds of friends on social media, our eyes are mostly on our phones, checking useless pictures, posts and videos shared by others. But, we don’t have the time to check on or call our parents, who need us the most. This is a very sad incident. I hope many will learn from this and contact their parents regularly.
From Ms Syeda Ahmad
This is the worst and a very harsh reality of our lives. Advanced culture has made us leave everything behind, even our parents. We weren’t created to be like this, but we fell in a trap of this new culture and have now become robots.ߘ?
From Ms Rujlan Ahmad
The son lived overseas, but the last time he spoke to his mother was a year ago? She was kept without domestic help, no one visited her and the building security didn’t check on the tenant? What was his purpose of earning then? She must have sacrificed a lot to bring him up. It’s such a shame! Some people are coldhearted!
From Ms Nyma Waheed
Ironic, isn’t it?
It is shockingly sad! But, it is ironic that a person working with technology was unable to get an app or social media account to stay in touch with his mother.

True face of politics
In my opinion, Facebook is the best thing that happened to this generation (“I gave up Facebook. Here’s why you should too”, Gulf News, August 8). Now, we Filipinos know everything that our local media refuses to show us. We won’t rely on these big networks, who only show the news that favours the officials who paid them to manipulate the citizens.
From Ms Glenda Torres De Guzman
The best thing that can ever happen to any person is to quit Facebook. People don’t realise how much happiness and love Facebook is draining out of them and instead leaving them with a lot of negativity, hate and anger because of trolls! As much as Facebook helps in spreading a lot of useful information and news around the world, it’s a happiness stealer! If you want to have a peaceful, quiet and happy life, just use a simple phone to just make calls.
From Ms Cassandra Debbie Sandra Jr.
Don’t let it control you
We should control everything we do in our daily routine, even using social apps! We believe we can reach more and more people by using social media, to get likes, fame and even business. Many people think it’s a faster and easier way to make money and contacts. In my opinion, we should control Facebook and not let it control us!

Two sides to a coin
The arrest of a domestic helper in Saudi Arabia for reportedly killing an 18-month-old toddler was disturbing (“Helper arrested in Saudi Arabia over toddler’s killing”, Gulf News, August 4). But, do spare a thought for the people who are made to work for long hours without proper food or rest and meagre wages, often not paid on time. We have read so many reports about these maids subjected to torture. There are always two sides to a coin. If you treat them with care and respect, these things will never happen.

I totally disagree with speeding (“Lorry driver burns to death in Sharjah”, Gulf News, August 6). In majority of the accidents that occur in the UAE, it is because the drivers were not aware of the rules of the roads. They drive in a reckless manner, change lanes without indicating or drive slow in the fast lane. I am a new driver and get so frustated while driving. I do my best to follow the rules of the roads. Motorists need to understand that life is so important. Please take care and drive safe. Leave your ego at home when you’re driving on the road.

Flaw in encrypted currency
Who do you think will accept this new digital currency (“New cryptocurrency launches in Dubai”, Gulf News, August 8)? Bitcoins came years ago and a majority of businesses still don’t accept it. The flaw with such an encrypted currency is that you can’t trace it unless you try to encase it. Why do you think hackers always ask for money in this form?
From Mr Aju Jacob
Those who belong to the low income group should also be allowed to survive in urban areas (“Abu Dhabi plan is a boon for low-income families”, Gulf News, August 7). This proposal of affordable housing would be an encouraging thought and helpful for living in a more comfortable way. The initiative should be part of a long vision that the government has and can help bridge the gap between community members. It further proves the influence that the authorities have in certain areas where people spend much of their earning. Affordable housing facilities may be a dream for the large expatriate community in the UAE, and the proposal could extend some relief to those who struggle with their income. We must take it positively and support such proposals, especially when it benefits a larger portion of the working community.
From Mr Ramachandran Nair
Do you feel lonely at work?
Maybe the nature of your work forces you to work alone at night or to be away for a long time from your family or your loved ones. But, feeling lonely, even when you are in a crowded and busy workplace, could make you feel tense or stressed. When trying to do your daily tasks, you may feel sad or bored, checking your messages on social media or look from the window to get your mind busy. But, that doesn’t change the fact that you feel lonely deep down. If you do an internet search for solutions on how to get over this exceptional circumstance, you will find many solutions or suggestions that may not work for you.
In my opinion, feeling this loneliness at work is just a reminder that you need to change and reconnect with life. Working alone in an office or located away from your loved ones does not mean you are isolated. No matter how your work is or where you work, you can still look inside yourself to open your heart for the stream of love, to ask for advice in how to engage with your department’s objectives and to cooperate with your colleagues with rewarding relationships without any judgment or expectations.
