Sports shouldn’t have political motives
Politics and sports are different entities. Sports should be viewed only as what it is, without any political motive. Particularly in the international arena, sports should not be mixed with politics. Sports personalities should be encouraged only on merits and not with political motive. Sports should always be separate.

Athletes would suffer
No, it should not be. Athletes would be the ultimate sufferers if politics were to get involved. They might not be asked to play, they might be asked to throw matches.

Finding funding
Would they really, Mr Mohammad Ahmad? There are benefits of politics having some role. Athletes who may not have been able to afford to be competitive, but who have real talent, could get an opportunity. To be an Olympian, you’re not supposed to be a professional athlete, so finding the kind of money that it takes can be very difficult for many.

Many implications
I agree with Ms Zahra, it has both positive and negative implications.

Just look at cricket
There should not be politics in sports. Look at India and cricket where politics has had a great effect on the sport.

Corruption
No way. There is too much room for corruption.

Was that a problem?
But it could raise social issues. Right now in the Olympics, you can’t champion any social movement. That actually happened with two African American runners who were almost disqualified in the 1980s for championing black civil rights at a purely athletic event.
