The Earth belongs to all of us
It is definitely not justified to kill an animal that is endangering a human life because of human negligence, especially in this case where the man tried so hard to taunt the animals. It’s pure ego if we consider ourselves to be more important than animals. Animals have the right to live just as much as we do. The Earth belongs to the animals just as much as it does to us.
However, we have put them in cages and keep them away from their natural habitat, and still we torture them because of the stupidity of others.
From Ms Akshitha Unnithan

Split second decision
I think that the zookeeper wasn’t killing the animals, he was saving a human. Just think at the time of the situation when he saw that man being killed by lions. I think he would take any action to save his life. If he made the decision too late, he might not have been able to save him. However, that man clearly doesn’t not hold any value for his life. I feel very sad for the lions who had to die because of him.

Unjustifiable
It’s unjustifiable that the lions were killed.

Charity begins at home
The question should be why don’t fellow humans value the lives of other humans? Why do humans seek pleasure in destroying their own and other different species? I thought charity begins at home!
From Ms Sandra Debby Idebu

Nothing to debate
The value of human lives are more important than those of animals. There is nothing to debate.
From Mr Dave Davo

Why kill the lions?
Why should those animals die? What did they do wrong? It’s not the fault of the animals that humans are self-destructive.
From Mr Chris Pittman

People stood by
The first question is how a man reached the cage when he was naked?
To rescue a life both, human and animal are important, but there were only bystanders as this man forced his way in. We talk now, but what is important is that we rescued the life.
From Mr Asad Ali
London, UK
Why is an animal life less important?
The animals weren’t suicidal. Why is it that human life is so much more important compared to an animal? Aren’t we all God’s creations? There is no humanity left in the world and humans slaughter each other on daily basis, animals are just becoming extinct because of human selfishness and greed. I am not saying a human life is not important, but an animal’s life is not any less important. At least in my eyes.

Charge him
You can definitely charge the man as responsible for killing two lions, but the punishment will definitely not be death sentence right? That’s why you save him.

Right to defend themselves
What about those animals who aren’t a danger to human life, but still humans kill them? I think that if human beings are endangering animals, then animals have the right to defend themselves.
From Ms Radika Krishna

Didn’t have to shoot
I praise the work the zookeeper did to rescue the man. But they should have used paralysing bullets to save the animals.
From Mr Nsubuga Isma

Death isn’t the answer
The life of humans and animals are both equally important, but I will take the side of the lion. The man was the reason for the lions having to lose their lives. His act of committing suicide is totally unjustifiable. Whatever be the reason in this life, suicide is not the solution.
From Ms Fazila Abdul Rahman
Dubai
Unjust and unfortunate
It was an unjust, unfair, unfortunate and unfavourable incident. I feel sorry for the lions. At least they were in the place where they were supposed to be. It was a prohibited area for people though.
From Mr Jitender Kadian

No choice
If you are doing something wrong, then you will face the consequences again and again. There is nothing more important than a human life. The zookeeper did his job. He had no choice.
From Mr Taj Khan

Human life more important
Human life is more important than lions. If there were 10 lions, he should have killed all 10 to save the man.
From Mr Osman Saleemi

Why kill animals?
This is nonsense! All the zoos and all animal control centres have shots of anaesthesia. Why kill animals?
From Mr Mohammad Al Hajeri
Al Ain
Tranquilisers are quick
That was my point, too, Mr Mohammad Al Hajeri, that I was about to make. Maybe they thought the tranquilisers would take too long to kick in, so they used a more direct and fatal action.
From Ms Maxene Dodds

We are different
Something we must understand in life is that a person who dies does not hurt himself/herself, but rather he hurts his/her parents, relatives, friends and his community. The zookeeper shot the lions to save the happiness of that man’s parents, not necessarily himself. Raising up a human being and investing in him is far different from the animals you’re defending. He can be a president and he may save many people’s lives. Tell me where animals take care of humans? Human lives are undebatable. God made human beings so unique that we may defend each other and other creatures.
From Mr Chris Wan Nalela
UAE
Not right
They should have just tranquilised the animals. It wasn’t the animals’ fault. First he jumped into their enclosure, then he annoyed them until they would attack. So the zoo killed them.
From Mr Steve Pereira
Dubai
Animals didn’t have a choice
The lions had to be shot as after eating human flesh, the keepers are at high risk of being attached. It’s angering because this man had a choice, but the animals didn’t.
