Children learn quickly

I fully agree with teaching children to cook at a young age. Like most skills, children are little sponges and will absorb all that there is to learn. It will stay with them forever.

Don’t have the dexterity

I disagree entirely with putting your child in the kitchen at a very young age. I think a passion and skill can still be developed at the age of 12 years old. I don’t think that young children have the dexterity to use a sharp knife carefully. The very thought of it gives me the chills!

Becoming health conscious

I also agree. These habits taught a young age will make them more health conscious.

Prominent memories

I started helping my mother in the kitchen from the time I could walk. Of course, she was cautious and I wasn’t doing the potentially dangerous things until I was 7 years old or so. Those are some of my most prominent childhood memories, cooking with my mother. She would give me cooking tips while we did things and they have managed to stay with me this whole time. Ice water in pie crusts, properly thickening sauces and soups, how to peel a tomato and so many other such things.

Too risky

This is just wrong. Teach them later. The injuries could be long lasting or life threatening!

Parents getting lazy

This is necessary to develop healthy lifestyle habits. It’s more important than we’d like to admit, I believe. Some parents are just lazy in teaching their children these things. Children grow up with these great meals on the table that their parents have made, but they couldn’t tell you how to boil a pot of water.
