Benefits for all commuters

I support this idea wholeheartedly as those who travel daily from Dubai to Sharjah will know the pain and suffering of getting stuck in traffic (“Here is what a Dubai-Sharjah metro link could mean”, Gulf News, January 28). I think, not only between these two Emirates, but rather it should be extended to Ras Al Khaimah. I could travel from and to those areas as well since the Northern Emirates are closely located to each other. The authorities should seriously think about this proposal. Building such important infrastructure will go a long way for the UAE and make life easier. On the other hand, those other Northern Emirates will also benefit immensely when people move into those areas. We are suffering while travelling within Dubai due to the congestion not only at peak times, but other times as well and the situation will become worse and worse. Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) does run a good bus service but have not done away with long route planning which is discouraging people from commuting from a destination A to B. By car, it might take 20-30 minutes but in an RTA bus, it will be one hour or more? Furthermore, RTA should think about running express services during office timings so that daily commuters can travel easily without wasting time or going through long routes which do not make sense.

Life in a Metro

Reference to the article conducted on whether the possibility of a Metro running from Sharjah to Dubai will be beneficial, I’m sure I will be the voice of many of us who spend valuable hours in the traffic. I have been a victim of this traffic for more than 10 years of my life, which has definitely taken a toll on my health and family. I request everyone to kindly consider he option of a Metro to make our lives easier and in turn, increase productivity at our work places.

Linking the Emirates

I am thrilled to read of a possible link between Dubai and Sharjah, by Metro. I think Sharjah commuters are waiting for this. There will be a great relief from traffic congestion. It’s economical, saves time, and reduces accidents, stress and pollution. I can see only benefits. Let this dream come true, in the near future.

Keep up the tempo

Congratulations to Indian captain Virat Kohli and his boys for exhibiting some character in playing on a pitch that was very difficult (“Kohli credits bowlers for Wanderers win”, Gulf News, January 29). It seems like the two Test practices have made them perfect to show some guts on the pitch, scoring them more runs, especially in their second innings. Though we won this Test, the selection of the players were not hundred per cent correct. It would have been better if cricketers Kaarthik and Umesh Yadav had played in place of Parthiv Patel and Hardik Pandya. Though we had lost the series, this Test win should be a real boost for our team to excel in the upcoming One Day (OD) and Twenty20 series. On analysing the Test series, had the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) allowed some practice matches, and had an unbiased selection, Kohli could have created history. As far as I knew, this is the second best Test win, first being the one at Perth Test, that too after the Sydney fiasco. Well done Kohli and his team. Keep up this tempo in the OD and T20 series.

The fantastic Federer

Congratulations to the iconic tennis player Roger Federer, for winning his sixth Australian Open and 20th Grand Slam at Rod Laver Arena (“No retirement plans for Australian Open champion Roger Federer”, Gulf News, January 30). With this win he has proved that age is nothing but a number. It seems like his fairytale, which started a year back in the same arena, still continues and will hopefully stay for another year or two. The Swiss defending champion dropped his only set in the epic finals. At the same time hats off to Marin Cilic for stretching the champion to the fifth set, where he could not hold on to his nerve. It was an amazing journey for Cilic to reach the finals. Federer was as cool as a cucumber, which enabled him to increase his Grand Slam tally to 20. We wish him the best in the coming tournaments to regain his world number one ranking.
