An avoided incident

I’m writing to share that my mother who is 54 years of age, tripped and fell on a pedestrian crossing at the exact same location about two months ago, soon after which, the light turned green and oncoming traffic came to a halt until she was on her feet again (“Unlevelled Dubai pedestrian crossing is a potential hazard”, Gulf News, January 24). She moved with the help of other pedestrians. She suffered a bruised knee and elbow, which I believe could have been avoided if it was brought to the attention of authorities on time. I’m happy that the issue was brought up by a Good Samaritan and would be delighted to see it fixed, considering we still continue to use this crossing.

Davos and Modi

In his elaborate speech in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Indian Prime Minister who was the first Prime Minister, to have attended the meeting after two decades (“Modi meets CEOs at WEF, IMF reaffirms India’s growth story”, Gulf News, January 24, mentioned his concerns about globalisation. Most of the countries including the United Nations (UN) are showing interest toward globalisation. Modi quoted the late father of the Indian nation, Mahatma Gandhi, welcoming various cultures and traditions to India. Today, the entire globe is facing terror and global warming. This can be tackled only with globalisation and help from others. Will Modi’s speech have any impact? We have to wait and see?

Feeling the ‘Power’

The dominance of Korean-pop in UAE is highly surprising and wonderful (“Exo spent a day in Dubai”, Gulf News, January 18). It is good to see the UAE expand in terms of music and open their doors to countries like South Korea. As a big fan of the K-pop band myself, I know how everyone was feeling. I am a committed fan of BTS (Bangtan boys) and belong to the BTS Army. I think K-pop is a wonderful part of the music industry. Many young fans including my friends are waiting for bands like BTS, Exo and Seventeen to come to Dubai. I am deeply happy about the reach of music in the UAE and hope other bands come soon.

Music bringing together cultures

The UAE has really come a long way as far as music is concerned. Every year, new and different bands keep coming to the country. There is versatility in the kind of performers and shows that are organised here. It is great to see. I love going for concerts and I am a music enthusiast.

Need to join hands

Day by day, the political scenario in Tamil Nadu, India, is getting murkier and interesting. So long we have been under the impression that Kamal Hassan is hand in glove with the DMK, his mentor. But the DMK working President seems to be on a confrontational mood with Hassan. Is this political strategy? Of course, no bird can fly immediately after hatching. They learn to fly and go higher. It should be no different for either Rajanikanth or Hassan. It is a known fact that the people of Tamil Nadu are totally fed up with the attitude of both the Dravidian Parties, during the past five decades, and are craving for a change. Hence it would be nice if all the film icons, or at least Rajanikanth and Kamal Hassan would join hands to take on the Dravidian parties in the next elections in the State.

Ensuring growth

I am a mother of two and after submitting a survey from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), I was really amazed by the work done by the authority. As a parent, we are always concerned about our children but the KHDA has ensured that our children get positive growth in all aspects, whether it is in the classroom, extracurricular activities, and the use of technology, computer science, and art. They keep us informed about all the school related activities and are always ready to listen to our opinion, and help solve our issues through their website. Hats off to the KDHA, especially the Dubai government. We feel proud and safe to be a part of such a great nation, where great and intellectual leaders are born. Thank you so much to the KDHA for their work. We are so satisfied with the survey.
