“You could rattle the stars, you could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down you know it, too. That’s what scares you the most.”

The Throne of Glass series by New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas is a much publicised series in the young adult genre, however this book series simply does not put on airs, it’s truly worth the reader’s eye.

In this book we follow 18-year-old Celaena Sardothien, serving her time in the salt mine of Endovier, a death camp. Celaena is a tough girl with skills to match and a mouth to look out for.

Oh, did I mention Celaena is an assassin? She is Adarlan’s most notorious killer.

After a year of hard labour, Celaena is dragged before the crown prince of Adarlan and is given the chance to win her freedom and to find out who betrayed her in the first place, and who is the reason she was imprisoned. She must take part as the crown prince’s champion in a competition to find the new royal assassin.

Celaena will compete against thieves, criminals, warriors, each sponsored by members of the king’s council. If Celaena wins the competition by eliminating her competitors, she will serve the king for four years and win her freedom.

Serving an empire she hates and a secret that could get her killed, Celaena must remain undefeated. But it’s not only her competition Celaena must be wary of. As competitors start dying, she must find out the dark secrets lurking around the castle.

The book series carries a perfect mixture of action, mystery, magic, romance, humour and fantasy, thus making it a frontrunner for my best-loved books list.

Not to mention, we very rarely come to see sequels that outshine the previous book. Sarah J. Maas is a well-trusted author, who never lets readers down and with every book release, she sets a new benchmark. The storyline, overall, is mindblowing. This story just simply gets better!

With even more exciting sequels already in line, I would highly recommend this book. The series is a magnet for young adult fiction fans.
