Wrong decision?

I am writing to express my displeasure regarding the photograph that was published on the front page of the newspaper (“Gassed to death”, Gulf News, April 5). I do understand that there are many dangerous and bad things happening around the world, and as a newspaper, Gulf News has the responsibility of publishing news. But I am not sure if publishing a photograph of a Syrian child, who was injured in the recent chemical attack, was the right thing to do. I don’t want my children to get horrified, seeing this image.

Gulf News has always published news that is real, accurate and factual. The Syrian conflict is an issue that we have actively covered to bring to fore the plight of the people and the injustices they face on a daily basis. Pictures are part of this coverage. Our role is to reflect what is happening in society and if that includes the impact of conflict, then that is what we will have to publish.
