DUBAI Pakistan cricket legend Shahid Afridi will receive the survivors of Peshawar terror attack at Dubai Airport on Thursday morning when they fly in to cheer their home team at the Pakistan Super League (PSL), XPRESS can reveal.

Afridi is the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, one of the five teams taking part in the inaugural edition of the T20 cricket tournament which kicks off in Dubai later this evening. The dynamic all rounder will be accompanied by teammates Mohammad Hafeez and Wahab Riaz.

Raft of events

As many as 146 children and staff of Pakistan’s Army Public School (APS) will be in the UAE to support Peshawar Zalmi which will play their opening match against Islamabad United on Friday.

Organisers said a raft of events has been planned for the students many of whom are still traumatised by the December 16, 2014 terror attack which claimed the lives of nearly 150 children and school staff.

The students will attend the gala opening of the tournament and later dine with the players on a dhow cruise. A trip to Ferrari World, beach cricket at Sky Dive Dubai and an interactive session at Gems Wellington Academy, Silicon Oasis are also on the agenda.

“I want to make sure this trip erases all the emotional scars when they go back from here,” said Peshawar Zalmi franchise owner Javed Afridi who was instrumental in bringing the children here.
