DUBAI Some animal behaviour experts reckon that dogs are incapable of experiencing joy. Saturday’s pool party at luxury pet resort and spa My Second Home (MSH) might have changed their perception.

It was a surreal spectacle as more than 100 dogs splashed joyously with their pals in a pool at the 60,000 square-foot facility in Dubai Investment Park Zone 2.

“We wanted to do something different for dogs this summer so we came up with the idea of a pooch pool party. The response was amazing,” said Sean Parker, general manager, MSH. “Last month we hosted a party for Golden Retrievers and Labradors. But this time we invited smaller breeds like Chuahuas, Pomeranians, Yorkshire Terriers and Maltese,” he said.

Belgian expatriate Tamara Almhanna who turned up with her one-year old Yorkshire Terrier Micky said she can’t remember seeing the dog so happy. “She liked it so much that she didn’t want to come out of the water. Micky is usually very shy, but that day she shed all inhibitions and made a lot of friends,” said Almhanna.

British expat Rebecca Rees who owns two Saluki cross breed rescue dogs said pool parties are a great way for pets and their owners to socialise and make new friends. A pet owner said she was pleasantly surprised to see her pooch performing belly flops into the deep end of the pool

“Despite the huge numbers there was no fighting,” said MSH co-owner Paul Sowerby,
