Dubai: How about shaking your derriere and dancing like Beyoncé to some ‘bootilicious’ tracks?

A Dubai-based fitness studio is bringing her famous moves with a special dance routine – just for the eclectically inclined.

Pole Fit Dubai – Aerial Arts Academy has introduced a brand new dance class session designed after Beyoncé’s famous moves. So if you want to learn how to do The Spank, The Pump Walk or the Hip Shake, put on your favourite heels and head straight to this studio in Dubai Marina.

Inspirational

“Beyoncé’s music videos and Super Bowl halftime shows can rock an audience. Her signature moves are an inspiration for dance enthusiasts around the world. So we decided to start Beyoncé dance classes for her fans in Dubai,” said Vlada Zhizhchenko, co-owner and lead instructor.

“The response has been great. Girls [her students] feel empowered, fit and sassy after each session. You may never dance as well as Beyoncé, but you can introduce the Beyoncé flair into your dancing. All you need is some basic knowledge of hip hop and street jazz.” The routine essentially includes popping, locking and lots of booty shaking. “If you want to get it right fast, practise the steps by watching her videos.

They are easy to learn but difficult to master. For example, the opening move in Beyoncé’s Run the World, the movements are simple but fast and jerky. You perform it by moving your shoulders up and down quickly, twice as fast as the beat. As you do that, your head should spin from side to side with the beat. You will get it right eventually.

“A vital tip to get it right is to dance on heels. Beyoncé wears them while rehearsing too. You’ll have to get comfortable moving quickly and fluidly on heels. To make sure you can do the real thing flawlessly – do it in stilettos.”

Russian Alexandra Shmidt, 30, a student here, is glad she signed up for the classes. “I have tried other dance routines, but when I started the Beyonce classes I said ‘This is it’. I feel empowered. I love Beyonce and that helps too.”

A typical session lasts an hour. Classes are held every Saturday at 4.30pm. Each session costs Dh75 with discounts for packages.

“So let go of your inhibitions and channel your inner diva as you dance your heart out. You don’t have to be a professional dancer to survive these routines.”

Tips to dance like Beyonce

-Perform “The Pump Walk” by walking in one direction with your heels lifted while simultaneously punching towards the ground

-Learn to do the “Hip Shake” by positioning your feet wide apart, your arms and hands above your head, and shaking your hips from side to side.

-Dance to the “Wind Down” by keeping your legs wide apart and moving your shoulders, torso, hips and arms while simultaneously lowering yourself to the ground.
