DUBAI Popular Indian TV anchor Ravish Kumar has rubbished claims that he is coming to Sharjah to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) founder Sir Syed at Radisson Blu hotel on October 21.

Enraged by invitation cards and posters proclaiming him as the guest of honour at the event, Ravish took to social media to vent his anger. “When was I ever going to Sharjah? I am shocked beyond disbelief that the invite has got my name. Why did the organiser do it when I told them repeatedly that I cannot come?” he said in a long Facebook post in Hindi earlier this week.

I am not Spiderman

“I get a lot of invites from social organisations in Gulf countries. I appreciate their love and feel bad about refusing them. But when I have categorically stated that I can’t attend the Sharjah function then why did they put my name on their posters? My work leaves me exhausted. By the end of the week, I am too drained to travel anywhere. I am not Spiderman, am I? So please remove my name immediately,” he added.

Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was projected as chief guest, is also not coming for and neither for that matter is another ‘guest of honour’ Justice Rajinder Sachchar.

On Wednesday, organisers sent out an amended invite saying the celebrations will now be attended by Olympian and ex Indian hockey team captain Zafar Iqbal .
