Dubai: A jobless Filipina is seeking help for her husband who is suffering from acute hemoptysis, also known as bloody sputum.
Liberty Bactong, 49, said her husband, Alex Opao, 55, had to be rushed to Thumbay hospital after he started vomiting blood.
A CT scan revealed he has two cysts in his right upper lung lobe.
“The doctors have asked him to undergo a surgery to remove the cysts. Unfortunately, my husband and I both lost our jobs recently and there is no way we can afford the surgery which costs around Dh5,000. My friends have pitched in for other treatment costs. I cannot go back asking them for more money. I am really stuck and don’t know what to do,” she said.
Bactong has another month left in the country after which her visa expires. “I am desperately looking for a job as I need to take care of my husband. He is not in a condition to work and only has me to support him,” she said.
People suffering from acute cases of hemoptysis or bloody sputum have high mortality risk. Patients can die from lack of oxygen because of the deposition of blood in the respiratory tract.
