Dubai

A Dubai homemaker, Vijayalakshmi Ratheeshan, 42, has clinched the first-ever title of Mrs Global, God’s Own Country.

The beauty pageant, the first of its kind organised by Espanio Events in Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala on May 20, saw 25 finalists from all over the world, including six from the UAE.

Privileged

A mother of two, who worked as a quality assurance manager with a shipping firm earlier, Ratheeshan said, “I feel privileged to win the title and represent the vast Keralite community from the UAE.”

No stranger to beauty pageants, Ratheeshan had won the Super Mom title at the Global Village in Dubai last February. She was also chosen as the May Queen at a contest held by the India Social Centre in Abu Dhabi earlier.

Grand finale

She said the finalists were groomed over one week before the grand finale.

Ratheeshan, who is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 56kg, said events like these carry a strong message for married women.

“Often, women think they should put their lives on the backburner once they get married.

“But platforms like beauty pageants encourage them to be self-motivated and showcase their talents.”

Ratheeshan said she owes much of her success to the immense support she receives from her husband and 18-year-old son and daughter, 9.
