DUBAI: Twelve domestic workers were pampered at DIFC’s upscale BBlunt salon as part of reality show Salaam Namaste aired on India’s entertainment channel Colors TV last fortnight.

The young men, who earn between Dh1,000 and Dh1,500, got an expensive makeover which included hair styling, colouring and trimming. Aaquib from Pakistan said he was thrilled by the memorable experience. “This is the first time that I have got such a stylish cut,” said the 26-year-old who has recently moved to UAE.

“Some knew what they wanted while the others left it to the hairdressers to decide what would look best on them,” recalled Ruchika Singhal, managing director, BBlunt Dubai.

Musharraf, 29, who hails from India and is a cook in a Dubai home, said he is overwhelmed by the compliments he has been receiving since the makeover. “My hair used to be long and unkempt. I showed the stylist a picture of a model sporting a modern hairdo and he made my hair look exactly like his,” said Musharraf.

Sachin Gokhale, business head for MENA and Africa at IndiaCast Media, the parent company of Colors TV, said Salaam Namaste follows the lives of South Asian expats from different walks of lives.

“In this episode we wanted to focus on underprivileged workers and bring smiles to their faces by getting them pampered at a high-end salon,” he said.
