Dubai: A 31-year-old Indian woman, who has been overstaying in Dubai for the past three years, is desperate to get her visa cancelled and return home to reunite with her five-year-old daughter.

Fathima, who hails from Andhra Pradesh in India, claimed she had no money to pay the Dh10,000 immigration fine she had incurred as she was living on the dole ever since her family business collapsed in 2012.

The woman said she could not get her visa cancelled earlier as her passport was stuck in the local courts in connection with a case of a friend for whom she had stood as a guarantor.

“I got my passport back only recently after the case was closed,” she said. “I do not have a job and I am struggling to manage my day-to-day expenses. I also have medical issues that I cannot afford to address here,” claimed Fathima.

Praying for a miracle

A distressed mum, she said, “Every day, my daughter, who stays with my parents, asks me when I will come back home. To top it all, my father who is sending her to school, is in hospital with a kidney problem. I just have to go back to them but I cannot until I clear my fine.”

“I can only pray for a miracle now,” she added.
