Dubai: Carrefour is all set to open its doors to visitors at Ibn Battuta Mall on October 8.

It will replace Geant as part of an acquisition of the French hypermarket brand by Majid Al Futtaim.

The leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure conglomerate across the Middle East, Africa and Asia operates Carrefour in 38 countries including the UAE.

Recently, Carrefour replaced the Hyperpanda supermarket in Dubai Festival City.

With the latest acquisition, the number of Carrefour outlets has increased to 80.

Members of Geant’s current customer loyalty programme will be transferred to Carrefour’s MyClub scheme.

Alain Bejjani, Chief Executive Officer at Majid Al Futtaim Holding, earlier termed the acquisition as a major milestone, saying it will further cement Carrefour’s position as the largest and most successful grocery retailer in the region and beyond.

Mall-goers welcomed the rebranding, hoping they will get good value for their money. “I am happy Carrefour is coming here as it offers a variety of products at affordable prices,” said American expat Amanda Johnson who lives in the neighbourhood. British expat Rod Evans, who lives in Discovery Gardens, said: “The closure of Geant had saddened me but I am glad it’s being replaced by a much bigger hypermarket.
