Dubai: Popular Indian television stars are set to take the stage at DUCTAC as a celebrated theatre veteran brings an unlikely play to Dubai next week.
Speaking to XPRESS ahead of the staging of Unfaithfully Yours, Raell Padamsee of Ace Production of Mumbai, said the play, starring Mona Singh and Rohit Roy, “is about finding love where it’s rarely found. Two people, very much married but not to each other, happen to meet. Neither one knows at the time that their brief encounter would turn into the most meaningful relationship of their lives.”
Friendship
But before you get any ideas, Padamsee clarifies. “The world isn’t black and white. Everyone has their grey intonations, the basic longing of a person is to feel loved! It’s the nuances and the friendship that the two share that is paramount.”
The play begins in 1990 when the two protagonists meet at a friend’s wedding, and get along so well that they feel compelled to catch up on the same weekend every year since. They have much to share with each other as they talk about their families, aspirations and dreams. Packed with romance, drama, wit and comedy, the play does justice to the fine actors in both Roy, famous for his roles in Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand and Swabhimaan, and Mona of Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahi fame.
Padamsee said, “Mona is the chirpy Bubbly Preet of the play, who thinks with her heart, no one could’ve played it better; Roy perfectly fit in the category of Akaash, the architect. They are two very different people and it’s the difference that adds to the chemistry.” This isn’t the first time that Padamsee is bringing her productions overseas. “Ace Productions was founded 25 years ago and has brought many internationally acclaimed plays and shows to stages abroad ... we do a lot of children’s theatre and are embarking on a huge production of the Ramayan. We have our own Academy for Creative Expression - ACE with speech and drama courses for children.”
