Dubai Seafood Market Terrace, one of Dubai’s oldest and perhaps also most loved seafood restaurants, is turning 23 on January 23 and it’s celebrating the milestone by giving away a raft of prizes including an all-paid trip for two to Hong Kong along with Dh2,000 cash to splurge on shopping.

The draw will be announced at a mega event this Saturday and you could be among the lucky ones if you fork out Dh200 here between today and Friday.

But even if you don’t win, there won’t be any regrets because the money is well spent. The ambience is brilliant, service excellent and the food top-notch, thanks to Chef Kwai who has somehow managed to turn almost every critter from the sea into a memorable dining experience.

Our epicurean journey started with restaurant manager Stanley F. Marquez guiding us to an elaborate seafood counter where a personal shopping aid was already waiting for us with a shopping trolley.

She helped us pick our food from about 20 giant water tanks brimming with ocean bounties like king crabs from Norway, oysters from France and lobsters from USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand and what have you.

We ordered a big lobster – and quickly devoured it with crustacean glee before trying some prawns, local favourite hammour and because, there was still some room left, steamed seabass.

Everything was succulent and cooked to perfection. “Keep them coming,” I remember saying aloud much to the consternation of my partner.

We particularly relished the lobster. It was so juicy and tender, the meat popped out of the shell without much ado.

The steamed seabass was a bit fiddly to our liking, but we enjoyed it too. We rounded off the meal with a dessert called mango jubilee, a flaming mango sauce served with vanilla ice cream and made a solemn vow to visit the place again.
