Because trends come and go so fast, we understand that it’s hard to keep up. To aid your memory we’ve made a small account — of the moves celebrities made that went viral.

Fashion

Fanny packs

With fashion changing little by little every day, it’s hard to tell what will come out next. Who knew the influencers would bring back fanny packs? The throwback piece has made a huge comeback — thanks to A-listers such as Kendall Jenner — and we hope it’s here to stay.

Bare shoulders

With all the shoulder cut-outs and Bardot tops out there we’ve deemed 2017 the year of exposing the shoulder, and it seems like this trend won’t be disappearing anytime soon.

Denim on denim

If you haven’t heard of, participated in, or witnessed the all-things-denim trend, you’ve been living under a rock. Denim took 2017 by storm. Countless celebrities have been seen parading around town in either all-denim outfits or an ensemble consisting of at least one denim item. There’s skinny, cropped, ripped, baggy, high-waisted, vintage, boyfriend, and mom jeans — check out Instagram — and of course patchwork and embroidered pieces, too.

With similar embroidery work found on denim items, printed handbags also have 2017 written all over them.

Velvet

Like denim, velvet everything was all the rage this year. You could get velvet bags, tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes and hats — you name it, it’s most definitely available in velvet. It doesn’t seem practical for winter and rain; however, so this trend might die down a bit for now but if you don’t want to say goodbye to velvet just yet, it’s OK, you do you.

Social Media

#metoo

In light of all the recent revelations made by brave individuals regarding their experiences with harassment, the trending hashtag #metoo caught plenty of attention this year, and we hope that it only brings about more justice to those who have suffered for long enough.

Modern Day PSAs

Voicing opinions, addressing personal encounters and experiences are not exactly a trend but the topics and issues at hand are classified as trending topics. The support from celebrities for those who mistreated and bullied Keaton Jones, all the posts regarding the heartbreaking hurricanes and California fires, and humanitarian work executed are a few examples of more serious trending topics.

Bomerangs

On a lighter note, Boomerangs — or photo loops — are another craze of 2017. Celebrity Boomerangs such as Ciara’s are a fan favourite. And then there is Beyonce’s innovative way of combining Boomerangs and music in such an artistic way — we hope this trend lives on.

Healthy life promotions

I bet you’ve been craving to get into shape this entire year. It’s obviously because of all the workout snaps celebrities and influencers have been posting on their Insta stories and other social media platforms. It is the gift that keeps on giving; one after the other the workout videos and pictures continuously pop up at various hours of the day. Sure, they are supposed to motivate us to be better and work harder... but it only makes us feel extra bad, doesn’t it? This is one trend we hope actually helps more people in the future or dies a mysterious death and lets regular folks live a fit-free happily ever after.

Another trend not too far off are all the health and fitness posts circulating on your insta-feeds, of celebrities eating those supplements that help your hair grow and drinking teas that help you lose weight along with green juices. Celebs are trying to do the right thing by following these trends because it sets a good example for others. But do they really work?

Hair

Short hair don’t care

A popular hair trend with women celebrities are the bob and long bob, aka the lob. These trendy hairdos look great and hopefully, stand the test of time.

Pastel heads

The pastel hair colour trend is very on fleek. Grey, pink, purple and green hair colours are still pretty popular. And it isn’t just for the women, plenty of men have adapted this trend — just check out K-pop stars. But let’s be honest, trend or not, while it’s pretty to look at, it is hard to maintain — and needs major commitment. So this look seems like a temporary flare up on the calendar.
