Dubai: On March 8, International Women’s Day, even the mighty Norse deity Thor had a sweet message for the women in his life.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, who plays the hammer-weilding immortal in Marvel’s Thor universe, posted pictures of his wife Elsa Pataky, five-year-old daughter India Rose, and mother Leonie Hemsworth, on his instagram page, and shared a small tribute to their strength and love.

He wrote: “Happy International Women’s day to my beautiful wife, daughter, mum and all the incredible women out there for their strength, compassion and courage to make the world a better place and let’s not forget that the women of tomorrow are being grown and nurtured among the children of today! Yet another reason to #defendchildhood for all children today and every other day!"

His post has since gone viral, with over 1.4 million likes and 5,400 comments.

Instagram user @just_figypudding replied, saying: “Such sweet words from a complete gentleman. #Thankyou for recognising that without women, wives, mothers and daughters, there would be no more continuation of our species. So #respect us!”

Instagram user @bdub4901 appreciated Hemsworth’s post, saying: “Because this is what a hero does!”

Hemsworth also tagged the Australian Childhood Foundation, a charity organisation that helps keep children safe from the trauma of abuse, violence and neglect. The actor is a patron of the organisation, and along with his brother Liam, raises awareness about child abuse, and fundraises to support vulnerable children.
