Most places, like people, have a hidden side. A special element that you discover through word of mouth or sheer serendipity. And so it happens that one of the best places I found for a hair treatment was NStyle, in Dubai Marina Mall, a place known — as the name suggests — for its nails.
Not enough that I got my mane looking as smooth as silk for the next five days, I was also treated to a head, neck and shoulder massage. To say I ended up relaxed would be a disservice to those wonderful knot-dissecting fingers: It was a sleep-inducing experience.
The treatment: Lets begin with the locks. A Kerastase caviar pack was slathered onto my scalp after a vigorous wash — with tepid water — and massaged into my strands. Next, my head was wrapped into a cellophane cocoon — fortunately, the discreet location of the Dubai Marina Mall store and the blinds on the door meant only I, and my hairdresser, were witness to the uneven shape of my head. Sometime later a wash (and some exfoliation, I was told) ensued. This was followed by a slather of shampoo and conditioner that’s meant for the same mask and finally, there was a douse of cold water to seal the moisture in. The result: Hair like flowing milk once it had been dried.
Next up was the head neck and shoulder massage in the nails’ section, where others lay coddled in swaths of warm towels, having their tips done up just so.
I don’t remember much about this part except a warm, soothing feeling — like a lullaby as the knots on my neck smoothened out. I smelled like lovely aromatic oil for a few hours.
What we liked: Gentle treatments that lull you into a delightful stupor — while making you look good.
What we didn’t like: The negatives are tough to find here. It’s too relaxing?
Go for: A chilled-out experience that’ll have you wanting to whip your hair back.
