Dubai: Drag-racing driver Sidnei Frigo suffered an horrific accident on Friday after losing control of his car at high speed at the NHRA Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.

Seconds after the start or the drag race, the torque steer caused Frigo to fishtail over the central reservation before sharply veering to the left before violently somersaulting over the retaining wall.

The destroyed car landed upside down on the grass verge and fire and medical crews were on the scene within moments.

The USA Today reports that Frigo was quickly extracted from the car before being airlifted to a nearby hospital. They also report that Frigo was responsive to medical personnel.

According to NHRA’s website, Frigo also races in the Top Fuel and Top Alcohol Dragster classes. He owns Brazilian team Artivinco Racing.
