Dubai. India’s only corrective centre for bowlers with suspect action, which had launched a cricket coaching centre in Chennai have opened their doors specially for budding cricketers from the UAE.

The Trucoach Centre for Sports Science (CSS)-Whatmore Centre for Cricket, with the most modern scientific equipment is based in Chennai.

World’s renowned coach Dav Whatmore as Director and Head Coach of the centre will personally attend to youngsters from here.

Dr K.A. Thiagarajan, Assistant Professor at the Department of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at the Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Science Centre, who was involved in the correction of the bowling actions of many renowned international bowlers is the Chief Operating Officer of the cricket centre, is in Dubai and along with former Kerala Ranji Trophy all-rounder J.K. Mahendra (consultant of the centre) met all the leading cricket academies in the UAE and cricket councils has done a presentation of the facilities in Chennai.

Speaking to Gulf News, Thiagarajan said: “We are reaching out to cricketers in the UAE and Middle East by organising special coaching sessions from June to August as it would be holiday period in this region. It would be a unique experience for the cricketers as we have one of the best coaching facilities for the game coupled with strong sports science methods monitored personally by Whatmore. We have met cricket council authorities in UAE and academy coaches and briefed them on what is in offer at the centre.”

Cricketers, apart from being taught the techniques of the game will also get Sport Science support from experienced scientists in the fields of Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Rehabilitation, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Nutrition, Psychology and Sports Analytics.

Talking about the centre, Whatmore said: “The reason I choose to coach in this centre is the outstanding facilities for not only cricket but in sports science too.”

The centre has introduced a new technology called Pitch Vision from UK. “Through this technology, visuals of a batsman and bowler are immediately conveyed to not only coaches but students and parents. An accurate picture of improvements needed in techniques will be available. We will also focus on improving a player’s life skills _ to become confident on dealing with challenges. Life skills will be taught by Level 3 and Tamil Nadu team coach Mullassery Sanjay. Accommodation for players from here will be provided in the campus and diet during the stay will be monitored by dietitians. Stamina building programmes will be handled by South African trainer Sandile Sibeko, More details are on www.trucoach.in” said Thiagarajan.

The centre has high class swimming pool, air-conditioned indoor running tracks and cricket pitches too. Coaching sessions with Whatmore, who is also now the coach of the Kerala Ranji Trophy, can be the pathway to Kerala state teams.

Gopal Jasapara, Head Coach of G Force in UAE said: “I visited this centre’s facility and it is world class. It would surely be useful for Non Resident Indian student going on holidays.”

Presley Polonnowita, Head Coach of the Desert Cubs, said: “We are very interested in their centre. I will visit them on June 22 and discuss possibilities of a scholarship programme for our academy cricketers who may do well in our oncoming UK tour.”
