Sharjah: UAE all-rounder Fayyaz Ahmad displayed his skills as a matchwinner in the One Stop Tourism 43rd Bukhatir Premier League, organised by Sharjah Cricket Council.

Fayyaz not only played a brilliant knock of 143 but also took two wickets to ensure Alubond Tigers an emphatic 185-run win over General Petroleum.

Fayaz scored over 40 per cent of this team’s total of 338 in 49 overs and bowled tightly along with spinner Nazir Aziz, who took five wickets for 43 runs, to bowl out General Petroleum for 153 in 30.4 overs.

Speaking to Gulf News, Fayyaz said: “When I came out to bat Alubond were four down for just 50 runs in the first ten overs. I usually bat at No. 6 and so I took the responsibility of playing a long innings. It was tough to play a long innings in this hot weather but I managed some good partnerships and helped my team post a big total.”

Fayyaz loves to play the demolisher, be it batting or bowling.

In 2015 Dhaid 40-over tournament he once produced a spell of six overs, five maiden, five runs and five wickets.

During the course of his knock of 143, which came off only 99 balls, he hit 12 boundaries and seven sixes.

Batting first, Alubond lost Faizan Asif for a duck before Abdul Shakoor Sher (28) and Yassir Kaleem (56) shared a fruitful 39 runs for the second wicket.

Amjad Gul chipped in with 35 runs too as Alubond Tigers amassed 338.

For General Petroleum, Arif Hadawal and Nawaz Ahmed claimed four wickets each.

Chasing the huge total, General Petroleum lost their top three batsmen quickly. Syed Muhammad Haider Shah managed to hold one end firm with a gritty 49-ball 48 runs but the required run rate kept piling up.

Nasir Aziz scalped five wickets in his 10 overs conceding 43 runs including two maidens. Fayyaz Ahmed, who took the man of the match award, too picked two wickets to wreck General Petroleum innings.
