Dubai: Shindagha Mammoths and Zabeel Mammoths recorded emphatic wins in the third edition of the League of Mammoths cricket tournament being played at The Sevens ground in Dubai. The tournament is organised by Dubai Mammoths under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Shindagha ratcheted 223 runs for four wickets. Vinay Tolani top scored for his side with 74 (49b, 1x6, 4x4) followed by Yuvraj Kurup 63 not out (37b, 5x4) and Abid Choudhary 59 not out (23b 3x6, 5x4).

Chasing a mammoth target, Jumeirah folded up for a meagre 114 in 15.5 overs. Vinay Tolani also contributed with the ball to bag three wickets and the man of the match award.

Sunil Raheja (three) and Noor Bashar (2) also did their bit to see Jumeirah’s downfall and push them to the bottom of the four-team league table, while the win kept Shindagha in second place.

At the top of the standings after eight matches were Zabeel after another convincing win over Nad Al Sheba.

Zabeel must have thanked their stars that they were asked to bat first as Kapil Gandhi 87 (42b, 7x6, 5x4), Shaldon Thomas 66 (23b, 5x5, 5x5), Ranjeet Chawan 40 (39b, 1x6) and Sujit Salian 30 (17b, 5x4) propelled their team’s total to 281 for seven in 25 overs.

NAS made a fight of it with Fardan Khalid 57 (31b, 3x6, 4x4), Naeem Mohammad 38 (29b, 1x6, 3x4), Qais Farooq 34 (36b, 3x4) and Shajil Balan 20 (18b, 1x4) but it was too stiff a target for them to achieve.

The match between Shindagha and Jumeirah was totally one sided. Shindagha got off to a poor start losing three wickets for 55 runs but Vinay Tolani and Yuvraj Kurup were involved in an 80-run partnership and that revived the Shindagha innings.

Later Yuvraj was joined by Abid Choudhury and they went unconquered during an 88-run partnership.

With a Herculean task ahead of them, Jumeirah just threw in the towel with only Ambey Parwatkar (26) and Manal Siddique (24) making contributions.

In the next match Zabeel also put NAS attack to the sword by compiling 281 runs thanks to Kapil Gandhi’s hurricane knock of 87 and invaluable contributions from Shaldon Thomas (66) and Ranjeet Chawan (40).

NAS lost by 85 runs but they did give Zabeel a fight.
