Dubai: Registration has opened for the second UAE Table Tennis Open Championship for Women to be held at Al Wasl on November 25 — the UAE’s national sports day.

Players will compete across three age categories, Under-12, 12-18 and 18 plus with trophies awarded to the best Emirati youth player and the player of the tournament.

The competition aims to promote healthy and active lifestyles among girls and women of all ages while raising the sport’s profile and increasing participation levels. There will also be an Emirati players evaluation programme targeting national team representation and a children’s training course aimed at introducing the game to youngsters of all age and nationality.

Majd Al Beloushi, a former UAE champion and chairwoman of the UAE Table Tennis Association’s Women’s Sport Committee said: “On the occasion of national sports day we wanted to promote table tennis while being part of this national event. The aim of the championship is to encourage women to participate, compete and unite in their passion for table tennis while enjoying the benefits of physical activity.

“Table tennis is a sport for all which is incredibly popular globally, can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, and brings positive fitness benefits for all participants. The hashtag of UAE National Sports Day is #UAE_UNITES_US, and that is our motivation in organising the event.”

Online registration, which costs Dh100, is open at www.uaetta.mysports.ae/. All players are encouraged to enter, and those who register online before the cutoff date of November 20 will receive a t-shirt and participation certificate. Players who do not register online can still register between 8am-8:30am on the day and will still receive a certificate.

There will also be a Fitness Zone and a Health Awareness Zone at the Championships to provide information and advice on adopting a healthy lifestyle.
