Dubai: Legends Cricket Club emerged as the champions of the Alliance Weekdays T20 Cricket League defeating UAQ Riders by six wickets at the Sharjah Hamriyah Alliance ground.

Ten teams contested in this tournament. Batting first, UAQ Riders posted an impressive 220 for 7 in 20 overs through Praveen Achuthan’s 83 runs and Vinu Vijayan’s 66 runs. Legends chased the score through Jishil Kamal’s 91 runs, well supported by Buta Gehri with 45 runs and Sibu Jacob’s timely 34 runs. Legends won the match with three balls to spare.

Speaking to Gulf News, Ajmal Masahir, the chief organiser of the event, said: “This is the league’s 10th edition as we stage three editions of the league every season. This is the fourth year of the event. UAE players like Krishna Chandran Karate and consistent performers in domestic cricket like CTK Mashood, Renjit Mani, Yassir Kaleem play regularly in this event.

Kamal, who top-scored for the winners was adjudged the Man of the final. Khalaf Bukhatir gave away the prizes in the presence of representatives of the sponsors Gulfgate, Colatta, Pocari Sweats. UAQ Riders swept all the top awards with Junaid Shamsu bagging the man of the series, Vinu Vijayan, wining the best batsman and Deepesh PG bagging the best bowler award.

In the Dubai Cricket Council’s Weekend Slammers played at the ICC Academy grounds, Devendra Taneja excelled for Dubai Mammoths in their seven-wicket win over Strikers. It was a bad weekend for Strikers as they also lost to Mideast Metals by eight wickets and Dubai Rhinos by 46 runs.
