Dubai: The third annual Emirates NBD Unity Run will be held in Silicon Oasis on November 24, it was announced this week.

Participants of all ages and ability will compete in an untimed three kilometre walk followed by a 10-km run, wearing UAE colours, to promote diversity and social inclusion for people with disability, as Dubai aims to become disability-friendly by 2020.

The event is held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in partnership with the Community Development Authority.

Participants with disabilities can enter free as well as their friends and family. The event looks to support Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities and Senses Residential and Day Care Centre, in addition to Emirates Red Crescent.

Since its inception in 2015, the bank’s flagship advocacy platform for people with disabilities #TogetherLimitless has undertaken several initiatives for disability-mainstreaming, including launching the Careers Network to facilitate workplace inclusion for people with disability. They have also opened 16 disability-friendly bank branches and set up PRIDE (People Receiving Independence and Dignity through Empowerment), a programme for people with disability that runs activities to promote educational inclusion, capacity building and public awareness.
