Abu Dhabi: Over 2,500 players took part in the opening day of du Football Champions School and Streets Cup matches across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain over the weekend.
Al Nahda School impressed in the Under-16 category of the Schools Cup as did Al Seddique School in the Under-14s. Both now look like contenders for the semi-finals.
Meanwhile in Al Ain, Al Dhafra Private School topped their group with 22 goals in the first day of matches, and in the girl’s competition last year’s runners-up Regional Sports made it through to the next round after topping their group with 15 goals.
Stand out teams from week one of the Streets Cup in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain were Champions FC, Abu Dhabi Thistle Red, Classic Team and The Maverick.
Under-16 talents Mohammad Kinan from Al Najah School and Suhail Al Sayed from Abu Dhabi International School caught the eye of scouts, as did Abdullah Salah Eddin from Al Nahda School in the Under-14 category.
A shortlist will now be drawn up ready for the best players to be invited to trials that could see them get into the du La Liga High Performance Centre squad, which tours Spain in the summer.
